Last Week's Meeting
Our District Governor, Gordon Kennedy,
made his inspection tour last week. He first met with Prez
Howard and the board of directors to review the Gateway plans for this
year and to suggest some of his goals for the clubs in District 5220.
Also visiting was Assistant Governor (Governor-Elect) Dorothy Bizzini.
Once again, the main target is to increase our membership. Governor
Gordon reflected on his recent group study exchange to Brisbane, Australia.
He also announced that Rotary International President-Elect, Rick King,
will be attending a very special dinner presented at the Oakdale Rotary
meeting October 5th, 6pm at the Oakdale Country Club. R.I. Prez-Elect,
Rick King, wants to induct 50 new rotarians at this meeting. If you
have potential members, here's a great opportunity for a very special induction
into Rotary. Since Governor Gordon's nickname is "Boots", Howard
presented the governor with a pair of fairly crusty old cowboy boots,
of which will be part of a display at the district conference.
It was a "FINE" meeting
Pete Lencioni was recognized for
his recent birthday celebration which included a tour of the Pacific Northwest.($20)
Frank & Donna Boots celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at what
turned out to be a surprise party for the occasion. ($25) Roger Liston's
club anniversary recognition cost him only $10.009/10.
A special presentation...
Mike Kline, Gateway President-Designate,
presented a $1000 check from Modesto Gateway to Nick Curtin, the executive
director of the Hanot Foundation. And in a surprise move Nick took the
opportunity to present Mike Kline with an award for all his work over the
years for the Hanot Foundation. Congratulations Mike!

No meeting.....
OLD VINO
A 300 year old bottle of wine was drunk by wine lovers
in the Netherlands. The markings on the side indicate the winemaster’s
intentions. “Better if opened by August 8, 1701.”
CRIME CURTAILED
New statistics show crime has fallen to its lowest level
in 27 years. The Clinton administration is taking credit for it.
Over the last two years no one in the White House has been indicted.
DRY DAYS
A record dry spell has been set in North Texas.
Emergency measures are in place for daily routines. For example,
during a death row inmate's last meal, water is only served if requested.
NFL BEGINNING
The NFL season starts Sunday. If a team is to compete,
it will have to depend heavily on the bench. A judge who ain’t afraid
to be lenient.
NO DOPE
The Supreme Court has struck a blow to medical marijuana
in California. It's not a total defeat for proponents of the practice.
They will now have to find other ways to attract NBA players to the state.
WIRELESS BANKING
Bank of America will offer wireless banking services.
Customers may now get bank info in the farthest away places. For
example, the back of the teller line.
And this just in....
An old guy is sitting on a bus when a punk rocker gets
on. The punk rocker's hair is red, green, yellow, orange...he's got on
feather earrings, and he sees the guy staring at him. He says, "What's
the
matter, old man? Didn't you ever do anything wild?"
The old guy says, "Yeah. I had sex with a parrot, once. I thought maybe
you were my kid."
